A Pleasant Surprise by Sage Cafe in Baguio City

Sage Cafe, Baguio City

Sage Cafe (pronounced as saj) is a recently opened restaurant in Baguio City and it's a place to rave about.

I honestly didn't know what to expect when we got there. But the surprise was amazing. The place is refreshing with its colorful yet homey interior. If you like a laid back dining experience, Sage Cafe is a must when you visit the City of Pines.

The cafe not only boast of having a good ambiance. It also has great food.

Nachos Supreme Platter
Nachos Supreme Platter

One of its specialties is the Nachos Supreme Platter. Nachos were served on a big serving plate with chili con carne, diced tomatoes and onions, shredded lettuce and corn, olives, grated cheese, and topped with sour cream. I'm a nachos person and the ingredients on this one was well-proportioned. Delicious!

Stuffed French Toast

We also had Stuffed French Toast for starters. You can find this listed under the "All-Day Breakfast" on their menu. It is simply french toast with nutella and banana filling, sprinkled with powdered sugar. And I thought the addition of small confectioneries made this look more appetizing and actually added texture.

Shrimp Pomelo with Thai Dressing

I love salads and the Shrimp Pomelo with Thai Dressing have my thumbs up. According to Sage Cafe, it is a Thai classic with a mixture of pomelo and prawns over mixed greens drizzled with sesame dressing. I appreciate the comfortable bite size pieces on this delightful salad.

Shrimp in Pesto
Shrimp Pesto

The Shrimp in Pesto pasta is another specialty. This is fresh shrimps sauteed in garlic and olive oil with linquine and parmesan cheese. It's a big plus that this pesto is not oily at all. It also doesn't have a very strong taste as most pesto-based dishes I've tried. It was deliciously subtle to the palate.

Chicken Chimichangas
Chicken Chimichangas

People who are close to me know my love for Chicken courses. Having said that, I had high expectations for the Chicken Chimichangas, described as a combination of shredded chicken and potatoes wrapped in flour tortillas fried to a crisp that is served with fresh salsa and ranch dressing. It was not a disappointment, but nothing to rave about either.

Barbecued Spareribs
Barbecued Spareribs

I am not a fan of spareribs but I could say that this Barbecued Spareribs can satisfy your cravings. It is how it was described: a fall-off-the-bones slab of marinated pork spareribs.

Sage Cafe doesn't fall short on desserts. We got to sample these:

The cakes were good. I particularly like the Mango Cheesecake. But among the desserts, I would recommend this:

Mango Tapioca
Mango Tapioca

The Mango Tapioca is a combination of mangos, tapioca, sago, and cream. Sweetness was just right. And well, you can say that I am bias towards Mango desserts. I probably am! ;)

Sage Cafe is like a breath of fresh air in Baguio City. It's like a portal that immediately takes you to a happy place. The best thing is, it doesn't just entice you with its homey feel. The food is actually good.

Personal Rating:

I give this restaurant a 5 out of 5 butterflies simply because it exceeded my expectations. It certainly has a very pleasant atmosphere, topped with reasonably priced good food.
