Davao Crocodile Park

I finally got to visit Davao last month with my mom and sister. During our first day, we decided to explore the city. The famous Davao Crocodile Park was our first pitstop before lunch.

It was a Friday when we visited the park and the place was crowded. It was hard to enjoy the park on a busy day. Weekdays are perhaps the best days to visit. The park charges an entrance fee of Php150 ($3.5) for adults and Php75 ($1.7) for children ages 12 and below.

I must admit that I love the animal parks. I am very much fascinated with animals. I am not particularly fond of these dangerous reptiles but we do share something in common. Crocodiles are nocturnal creatures. So am I. And so, don't be disappointed to see them appearing lazy during a day's visit. You have to wait till nightfall to see an active croc.

Pangil is the main attraction in Davao Crocodile Park. He's the largest and oldest (more than 80 years old) crocodile inside the park. He was asleep (I think) when we visited because he barely moved. But according to park attendants, guests can see Pangil in action while he is being fed in the afternoon. We got there in the morning and we had something scheduled for the afternoon so we had to content ourselves with seeing him asleep.

The Davao Crocodile Park also houses other animals as part of its tourist attraction such as eagles, ostriches, goats, and more. But my favorite is this tortoise that is let loose inside the park. It is completely harmless. We found kids completely absorbed to its cuteness! He was quite active when we saw it. In fact, too active that it was hard to take a photo with him! For a turtle, he was moving fast! But nevertheless, he was adorable.

We saw a few Philippine eagles upon entering the park. They will be the first ones to greet you with a few parokeets once you passed them.

If you are not afraid of snakes, you may want to take a photo with a large albino python inside the Davao Crocodile Park. There is a park attendant to assist you just in case you find the snake too heavy to carry. I'm not really fond of snakes so I didn't even think of holding it.

During our visit, I spotted a cockatoo that looked so sad. His perch was broke and he had not choice but to stay at the bottom of the cage. It was a saddening site. Birds to love to sit off the ground. I hope the park staff was able to restore his perch by now.

Davao Crocodile Park is located at Riverfront, Diversion Road, Maa, Davao City. Don't forget to buy yourself a souvenir. The shop is located near the entrance. I bought a crocodile key chain for myself.
